Honda Australia recently announced that it will convey the price savings due to Australia’s revision of import duties applying to many of the Honda new car range. Already renowned for their affordability to acquire, own and eventually (perhaps even reluctantly) resell, the range of Honda new vehicles is now even more affordable.
Honda Australia have decided that, instead of playing some of the silly pricing games that some other manufacturers are indulging in to keep the government duty saving from their customers, they will pass on the full saving to Honda customers immediately. Honda customers do not even have to wait until 2010, when the duty reductions officially take effect. By introducing the new pricing right now, a month before the Australian Federal Government’s tariff reduction on imported passenger cars, Honda has kept buying a Honda relatively hassle-free. December in Australia is traditionally a busy time for car sales, as many people buy a new car to enjoy over the festive season and/or on their family holiday and others want to update their company car before the new work year starts. Other manufacturers are keeping their potential customers in limbo until next year.
The tariff reduction will range from 5 to 10 per cent, which translates to savings of between $1,500 and $3,000 from the R.R.P. of new Honda models imported from Japan and the United Kingdom. A Honda Australia spokesperson, Stephen Collins, said: “We are pleased to pass on these savings on award winning models such as the Accord Euro and Odyssey to our customers a month early.”
Honda’s Thai-built models are ineligible for the duty decrease, due to the Free Trade Agreement between Australia and Thailand. Also, Four wheel drive vehicles are currently subject to an import duty of five percent and will not receive any further reductions under the latest tariff reductions.
